Congratulations to the New Inn
(2011 Marches League Winners)

Picture
Brecon RFC PC would like to congratulate the New Inn on becoming 2011 Marches League Champions. The New Inn took the title away from Brecon last wednesday with a close draw at The Sundowners who had previously drawn at Brecon, dashing their chances of retaining the title. The New Inn have proved to be the better team this year and have played some fantastic boule. Well Done all.

With the title already decided it is now up to Brecon to raise their game against Les Grosmont to claim second spot for the season. The night will be tense, but all eyes will be on this result.

Team Aberhonddu took a blow with a crushing defeat (5-1) to Les Grosmont on Wednesday, religating the team to Division 2 for next season. Things can only get better as the song once said and it is odds on that the team will return to the top flight next season.

Its Tight at the Top and Bottom

Picture
Wednesday night saw both Brecon teams going head to head at HQ. With Team Brecon needing the win to stay in touch with the New Inn and Team Aberhonddu needing the points to stay alive in Division 1 the evening was going to be a tense, but friendly affair. It was Brecon who got off to the quick start winning both triples games. Aberhonddu then came back taking one of the doubles games but this was to prove to be there only game of the evening as Brecon took the remaining matches to win 5-1. Brecon now move within 3 points of league leaders the New Inn and will be looking to other teams to do them a favour over the last remaining agmes of the season, including the Seven Stars.

Team Aberhonddu now need to win their remaining fixtures to stay in the top flight, and look at other teams to drop points. Come on Brecon and Aberhonddu you can do it.

From Tom on his Honeymoon, and before you say it "why have I got time to write this report". Ive just put the sign up on the caravan, so once again its well done from me and see you all next Wednesday.

Double Delight for Brecon

Picture
Reining champions Brecon moved to second in the league and showed that they were still in the game with a superb win at the Tram this week. The team had slipped in the last couple of weeks to a number of silly draws and a crushing defeat at the hands of the Strand, quoting the Marches Website 'Never in the history of the Marches League has Brecon suffered such a deafeat', but as true champions they have bounced back with two victories in the last two weeks firstly taking out current high flyers The Seven Stars 4-2 and last night crushing a very compatative Tram Wheels side 6-0. It looks like the tide might be turning and Brecon's hold on the Marches crown might of slipped back towards the centre  of their heads, they will not give up their title easily to our friends from the land of  St George over the border.

Wednesday also saw a superb victory for team Aberhonddu with only 5 players moving then out of the religation zone. Travelling to the Nags Head is a hard task at the best of times, but the team once again showed their team sprit after losing the first game they managed to claw it back winning eventually 4-2. It looks at this time that both Brecon teams are hitting form at the end of the season, with Brecon 'A' trying to hold on to their title and Aberhonddu fighting to stay in the top flight. Both teams now have to keep the good performances up and next weeks games cannot come quick enough.

Brecon Boules Bonanza Weekend - Doubles & Triples

Picture
Last Weekend saw the inaugural Brecon Boules Bonanza take place at Brecon RFC PC. With the weather holding off for the Doubles Competition on Saturday the boules that were played was a joy to watch. With 11 team entering the day consisted of 3 games for each team in the morning and 2 games in the afternoon, followed by the top 2 teams contesting the Cup and the 3rd and 4th teams competing for the Plate.
It was the paring of Stewart Spencer and Phil Brashaw against Ian Bailey and Derek Jones who contested a very good final with Stewart and Phil taking the title.
The Plate competition saw an all Brecon affair with the father and son partnership of Paul and Tom Jones facing Mark Page and Gareth Smart. After a close start it was Paul and Tom who came out on top eventually. The day was enjoyed by all.

Sunday saw scorching temperatures and the boule was just the same. With 12 teams entering the format of the day was the same as the Doubles with the 2 top teams competing for the Cup and the 3rd and 4th teams competing for the Plate. The cup final saw the triples of Neil Dobbins, Cyril Royer and Ian Bailey(Sir Henry Morgans) against Jake Carston, Jesse Robic-Lipetz and Connor Tomczyk . It was the Sir Henry Morgans team of Neil, Cyril and Ian who took the title, winning in style.
The plate competition saw the Brecon three of A J Jones , Jim and Mark Page take on the family triples of Kevin and Christine Hughes plus William After a tense few ends and some high quality boules it was the family triples who came out on top to the delight of young William.
